Topolobampo collection, 1872-1910.

The collection is composed of Albert K. Owen's business records documenting the development of Topolobampo, Sinaloa, Mexico, including correspondence, writings, legal documents, published articles, maps, and development plans. The writings series includes examples of Owen's utopian thinking and an account of his first perceptions of Topolobampo Bay. The subject series contains diverse materials pertaining to the building of a railroad connecting Topolobampo to locations in the United States. Principal correspondents represented in the correspondence series include John W. Lowell, C.B. Hoffman, J.H. Rice, and Arthur E. Stilwell--all of whom played some role in the development of Topolobampo--and Mexican president Porfirio Díaz, who helped Owen obtain permission to build a railroad.
